Biketober is bringing a month of bike activities and events in Ōamaru, with opportunities for tamariki, rakatahi, whānau and the wider community to get active, have fun and enjoy getting around on two wheels.
Scavenger Hunt @ the Gardens
Throughout October | Ōamaru Public Gardens
Keep an eye out for yellow letters hidden around the Ōamaru Public Gardens. Find them all, unscramble the letters to solve the mystery phrase, then fill out an entry form at the Ōamaru Public Library for your chance to win a $100 voucher from a local bike shop of your choice.
Wobble, Wheel & Play
17 October | 11am–2pm | Fire Station Hall, Thames Street
As part of the Under 5s Let’s Play Expo, Waitaki Road Safety will be running Wobble, Wheel & Play – helping little riders build balance, confidence and safe riding skills through play.
Youthtown – Youth Rides
14, 21 & 28 October | 4.30–5.30pm
We’ll be heading out each week to ride some of our awesome local mountain bike tracks. Open to school students, Year 6 and up. All you need is a suitable bike, helmet and drink bottle. Ride locations will change each week, with details posted every Monday on the Mountain Bike North Otago and Youthtown Oamaru Facebook pages.
Bluelight Bike Breakfast
21 October | 7.45–8.30am | Ōamaru Police Station
Biking to school or work? Stop by the Ōamaru Police Station on your way for a free breakfast, thanks to Bluelight.
Whānau Wheels & Play Afternoon
23 October | 3pm | Ōamaru Bike Skills Park
Come along for a fun afternoon for the whole whānau as part of Play Week. Enjoy the play equipment, get on your bike and have a go around the Ōamaru Bike Skills Park.
Bike Talk
29 October | 6–7pm | Ōamaru Public Library
Hear about Mike Buuchas’ experiences on a 13,000km tandem trip through Asia and Europe, including the incredible journey and places he experienced along the way.
