Funding Advice

Funds are available to sport and recreation organisations for a wide range of purposes through a variety of gaming trusts, charitable organisations, and other funders.

Key steps to follow when intending to make a funding application include:

  • Prepare a budget for your organisation or project detailing all anticipated project costs, including volunteer labour where appropriate.
  • Visit the Fundview Programme which is available at libraries and community advice organisations throughout Otago. Members of Dunedin Public Library can access Fundview from the library website under 'databases'.
  • Contact all organisations that make funding grants for purposes that match your particular project to confirm the eligibility and the best process to lodge an application.
  • Advise the funding organisation that your application has been completed and the date that it will be sent for consideration.

Further information on funding assistance is available from the following Department of Internal Affairs webpage, click here

The Otago Community Trust of Otago (OCT) supports, encourages, and enhances Otago communities by responsibly managing and sharing their funds to support charitable, cultural, philanthropic, recreational, and other activities which are beneficial to the Otago community.

Regional Sporting Organisations can apply to the OCT through the Regional Sports Fund - an annual contestable funding round which closes on March 31.  Further information and Regional Sports Fund application forms can be found on the OCT website.

Other sport and recreation organisations can still apply to the OCT for assistance with projects, programmes and other initiatives at any stage during the year.  Applications must be submitted using the OCT application form.  Every application is judged on its individual merits and its potential value to the Otago community.  Before submitting applications please check to see if you meet the criteria outlined in the OCT application form.

After the application is received it will be considered by the Trustees. It is important to note that this process may take up to three months.
