Sport Central is a partnership between Sport Otago, Sport Southland, the Central Otago District Council, and the Queenstown Lakes District Council. The project, which commenced in 2002, is designed to address the specific sport and recreation issues facing the Central Otago community.

 


 

Aims And Objectives

Sport Central was set up with the following key objectives:

  • Provide first point of contact for information and inquiries.

  • Facilitate local training opportunities for volunteer administrators, managers and coaches.

  • Identify needs and solutions with local community sport and recreation providers and assist them in developing appropriate policies.

  • Coordinate the sharing of good management practice between clubs, codes and communities.

  • Assist with the coordination of local events and facilities along with generating publicity and media coverage.

  • Introduce appropriate community based programmes such as Green Prescription, Active Movement and CoachForce to encourage greater participation.
