Brent Ward is the Skills 2 Swim coordinator. This is a Water Safety New Zealand Award winning initiative to lift the levels of swimming skills and water safety awareness. The role is to coordinate and to be the key point of contact. The programme aims to have children by the age of 12 able to swim 200m. It also aims to increase awareness of water safety.
The target age group of the initiative is the 9 to 11 age group. The major contributor to the project is the support from primary schools to embrace the principles of the initiative to the benefit of children. The partners in the project are: The Dunedin City Council, Water Safety New Zealand, Otago Community Trust, Sport New Zealand, Sport Otago, Swimming New Zealand, and Surf Life Saving NZ. Brent has extensive experience in education as a successful teacher and principal. He has a wealth of experience in coaching track and field, with athletes representing New Zealand at the highest levels . His interests include family, especially his grandsons, Taylor and Luka. |
