The event will be held on Saturday 20 February 2010. The Papatowai Challenge is the winner of the Sport and Leisure TrustPower Community Award.
It is a great pre-season fun run and walk from a holiday home in the Catlins. It is signposted at the south end of Tahakopa River Bridge, Papatowai. Runners must be 13 years & over. Papatowai is located approximately two hours from Dunedin and twenty-five minutes south of Owaka. The Southern Scenic Route is now fully sealed.
RACE INFORMATION The Papatowai Challenge is run over the measured distance of 15.5km and is over a varied scenic course of well-formed bush tracks, beach running and local roads. Walkers Start Time: 12:00pm. Runners Start Time: 1:00pm.
Fastest times over the course are: 53m 27s (2009) by Dougal Thorburn of the Ariki Club, Dunedin and 1hr 00m 23s (2006) by Anna Frost of the Hill City Club, Dunedin.
Fastest walkers: 1hr 39m 27s (2004) by Barrie Sheehy of St Pauls Club, Invercargill, and 1hr 42m 6s (2004) by Gail Sharp of the Caversham Club, Dunedin.
Please Note: Road closure are not in place, competitors must keep to the side or verge of public roads at all times, and that normal road rules must always be followed. ENTRIES & FEES Entry fee is $10.00 for runners and walkers. SOUTHERN COASTAL SERIES The series is run over two events, the Papatowai Challenge and the Karetai Challenge. By completing both events you qualify for place-getters’ medals and other awards, distributed at the Karetai prize-giving.
